Light in the Darkness

I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

Packing lunches, fixing hair, making breakfast; screaming across the house “Get your computers, make up your beds, and don’t forget to brush your teeth!”

I grab my keys to go warm the car up and as I do I glance out the window and see this sight.

It stops me in my tracks.  I just stand and watch.

His face so intent on the words being spoken; his expressions reflecting the fact that he is praying to a God who He knows is listening.

Before he finishes, I pray a prayer of my own. One of thankfulness and one of protection. I take a deep breath in and smile.

This side that I get to see is what needs to be shared with the world. The side that realizes he can't do this job or life without the full armor of God. The side that is wise enough, yet humble enough to enlist someone else who is greater to lead the way.

Everyday is a different story. Some days end with contentment and satisfaction that he fulfilled his purpose, other days end with sadness and defeat that he fell just short. Unless you have walked it, its really hard to know exactly what it is like. Even I don't know completely.

But what I do know is that this man, like so many others have been called to protect and serve. A job they do not take lightly or without due care. Unfortunately, the bad will always outshine the good. It's a sad, hard truth.

So before you cast the stone, think about the good ones. I know you know them. Remember them. Pray for them because I guarantee those are the ones that are trying their best to leave a little bit of light in all this darkness everywhere they go.

With love,

Tori
