Watch Your Mouth

Politics. I know nothing about them. Other than I’m not of fan. Not of either side.

If the conversation of politics comes up in any room, I quietly make a bee line for the door.  It’s not the actual idea of politics, it is the way people allow it to justify their actions on how they treat another person.

Why does anyone feel the need to keep bashing each other down over the same issue day after day? I feel like we are in a game of whac-a-mole. Let’s keep beating each other over the head each time someone pops up to say something.

Whac! Oh you got something to say

Whac! I don’t like that!

Whac! Nope not listening!

Have we lost our minds? Have we forgotten what it’s like to have a conversation with one another? One that doesn’t involve put downs, insults, and degrading comments. One that doesn’t involve disgust towards another human being?

Were we ever able to have a regular conversation in the first place?

I know, I know. They make you mad. They are trying to take away your rights. They are this and they are that. Either side fills in blank with their own agenda.

Can we think for ourselves anymore? Can we remember that great commission we were given? The one that we are supposed to be living for? To go and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit?

How does any of what I see being spoken towards and about other Americans relate to that? Can you make a disciple by telling someone they are an idiot for being a Democrat or a Republican?

I’m imploring people to think. Something I used to teach my students, before you open your mouth to say whatever it is you are going to say THINK.

Is it True, is it Helpful, is it Inspiring, is it Necessary, Is it Kind?(I didn't come up with this)

If it does not meet all of those things, maybe you should reconsider before you let it come flowing from your lips. Guarding your tongue is not always easy, but man oh man is it important.

I’m not naive to think everyone is going to come to an agreement on all the topics that are plaguing our nation today. I get that there are many differing views and opinions on a variety of topics. I also get that we are able to voice our opinions without the thought of repercussions and we can say whatever it is when want to say because insert reason. But should we really? What do we gain by doing so?

Have we become so self-involved that we think nothing of others and how what we say affects them? Have we forgotten that they were created from the same God that we were created from?

Argument after argument after argument is what I see. Does any relationship get better from arguments? I don’t know of any. Do you know how relationships do get better? Communication and compromise from both parties. Both sides being willing to listen and respect each other even if they don’t agree. Open ears and closed mouths.

I know how you feel Olly girl

My hope lies in Jesus in 2020.

With love,

Tori
