Turn. It. Off.

Turn it off.

Pick up the remote and press the power button.
Click the log out button and don't look back.

It's become very apparent to me that our hearts need a good tuning. A tune-up to refocus our eyes on actual reality. A tune-up to remind us we can think for ourselves. And a resource we can use that doesn't require any type of electrical connection. Something that probably most of us have in our homes, but might not pick up as often as we should. It's alive and active, we just have to open it and start reading.

My mindset used to be, I need to be informed with what's going on in the world and the community I live in. While that is a valid argument at what cost am I willing to not be "ignorant"? The price that I will pay is much higher if I continue to ingest what I'm being fed right now on a daily basis through my news feed rather than just turning it off and relying on the one thing I actually need.

Because the truth is when I walk around my town,

I see kids playing basketball in the street yelling "BRICK" each time their opponent takes a shot.

I see friends helping friends move belongings into their new home.

I see strangers waving at little ones who sit in their stroller with a big smile on their face.

I see neighbors mowing their grass who flip me a wave as I run past.

I see a sweet barber who doesn't let us pass without giving the girls a lollipop.

I see a Ms. Alice who wouldn't let my baby girls walk away without a hug and a God Bless You.

I see a highway lined with kids whose futures are just beginning.

I see people who say they are praying for my husband and all the like.

I see blessings in the ways of miraculous healing and walking testimonies of prayers being answered.

The truth is I see what's really there not what they tell me is there. I see Jesus.

I can't change the world, but I can change the way I view the world. I choose to view it through the lens of Jesus. I can "clothe myself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."  And the way I can start is with the click of a button and just a turn of a page.

With love,
Tori
