Same Difference

We are trying something new to help us remember to pray because honestly we take it for granted a lot of the times. Day to day activities and routines often go by without a thought to praying as a family.  Prayers before bedtime and meals are usually said, but I realized it's important to teach our children prayers can happen anytime.

As we were sitting down filling out a simple guide to help us be intentional with our prayers, this is what my daughter wanted to pray for.

Help me be kind.

Simple, to the point, but powerful. Lord, help me be kind.

When she said this I got to thinking. The wheels started turning and I asked myself but what does that even mean? What does that look like?

Often times, we say things like this and expect everyone has the same definition because it is what I would call "a given." It should already be know without you having to tell someone. Be kind is a given. Or is it?

With my children and even some adults, I have realized it totally isn't a given. It has to be taught.

So I asked my girls to explain to me what they thought it meant to be kind?

One said helping another person with their work. The other said love.

Two different answers from two people who live in the same house and are being raised by the same parents. Interesting. The answers are not the same, so do they both  understand what it means to be kind? The answer is a big yes!

To one person being kind could be shown through acts of helping, another might show how to be kind through words, another might show kindness through giving.

We all have different abilities, different gifts, and different ideas. We are not robots and were not made to always see each and every situation the same, and the challenge is to figure out how to work all these different body parts to achieve the final goal, whatever it may be. How do we do that? Through the one commonality between us all. The one Creator.

Fix your eyes on Him and ask yourself this question, "What is it that we are trying to accomplish here?" I guarantee if you put God first, we will all come up with the same answer  just in different ways.
Each with a different gift 💜

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

With love,
Tori
