Goodbye Summer, You've Been So Good to Me
Growing up my dad used to listen to the song Cat's in the Cradle. If anyone has ever heard it, you know what the lyrics allude to. The dad worked too much and never had time for his son in the moment, he would always tell him I can't right now but soon I will and "we'll have a good time then."
As a kid, I remember saying to myself I will never be like that. I'll always have time.

One morning, I woke up and took notice of my thoughts as I was lying in bed getting ready to face the day.
"If I can just make it through this week, I'll feel better."
"When this season is complete, then I will have a chance to focus on what's important. I'll have more time then."
"Yes, we'll have a good time then."
I had become what I had said I wouldn't. It hit me like a ton of bricks.
How could I have let this happen?

It's easy to get so busy working for the next thing, that you forget to live in the present. Thankfully I serve a God who knows exactly what I need before I ever do.
He knew I needed to retrain and transform my mind. His timing is impeccable.
Summer arrived just about the time I realized something needed to change. Here was my perfect opportunity to renew and transform. I had to let go of the mindset that said to get work done first, then enjoy life later.
This summer I have taken the time...
I've taken the time with people again. I've turned off the phone, stopped scrolling, and just talked. It's more important than I ever understood.
I've taken the time to listen, like really listen. Not just nod in agreement, but listen to the sound of my children's voices, etching them into my brain so I can remember always.
I've taken the time to ride. Looking out the window watching the trees go by, counting the light poles, and viewing that beautiful sky.
I've taken the time to say no. No to being busy and yes to being bored. I've learned being bored is a good thing.
I've taken the time to gain wealth. Gaining moments and memories. Making the most of time.
With love,
Tori

Learn to just be;
to be in the present;
to be content with simple;
to be grateful for a day filled with no plans;
to be at peace with quiet.
Goodbye summer, you've been so good to me.
With love,
Tori
