Chasing Success

Define success.

As a young adult, it used to mean being able to support myself with a respectable job. Being able to show everyone that I've got my life together. Having the label married woman with kids. Making money to buy the things I wanted with the money that I earned. Success used to revolve around me and what I could achieve. Chasing success was my purpose.

Some days success still defines me. It's a battle against the world. It's a fight that I have to fight everyday because after all I live in a world that defines life as how much you can attain or achieve.

What I've come to realize is that life was never meant to be about success. It was never meant to be about gaining as much as you possibly could to show that you are worth something. It was never meant to be about showing off what I have to the rest of the world so that they would think better of me. Life has so much more meaning than just the number of dollars in your bank account. It goes beyond more that the "toys" you have in your driveway. It stretches past the title you hold at your job.

Living a successful life is actually not being successful at all, at least not as the world defines success. Being successful in your life means living in a state of contentedness, lovingness, and gracefulness.

Content with what you have been blessed with leaving the if onlys behind.

Loving all those you come in contact with even when it's hard, it hurts, or just awkward.

Graceful in the same way Jesus showed his grace to all of those who fall short.

Redefine success.

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

With love,
Tori
