Blessed are the Ones Who Fix Broken Dishwashers
Matt is pretty handy when it comes to fixing things but we had a particular problem with one of our household appliances that was out of his line of expertise. Matt is really good at using common sense to fix things that are broken or things that I think are broken. Like telling me that I put the coffee pot too close to the thermostat causing it to show a false reading. Those are the kinds of fires Matt puts out around the Bryan house. Bless him for loving this naive little soul of mine.
Anyhoo the dishwasher needed a new part and that was something he hasn't had much experience with so we had to call in an outsider. Luckily we knew a pretty good repairman that just happened to be family and he was more than willing to help fix this little old lady's dishwasher. Bless him, bless him, bless him. It might seem silly to get so excited about the dishwasher but when you have so many people in your home, dishes can pile up fast. Not to mention, my complete dislike for washing them. I blame my dislike on washing dishes on my Grandma. When we were at her house as kids, she had a perfectly fine and working I might add dishwasher, but for some reason she thought her granddaughters were much better at washing the dishes than it was. One of us had to be the dishwasher and one of us had to be the dryer, so as I got older I vowed that I would always have a dishwasher so I didn't have to do it myself. Well that is a good plan until it breaks and you can't fix it because you don't know how or you don't have the money.
I write about this experience because he didn't have to fix it. He didn't have to take time out for us to work on something that wasn't his responsibility. He didn't have to chat with us while he worked on it and he most certainly didn't have to love on my children before he left. But he did. This my friends is Christ's love at work. Loving people with our actions. A simple act of kindness. That two-mile living.
You won't see this story on the front page of the newspaper because it's not something that is "happening" or "controversial" or "political" or "juicy" but I had to share with you. Because to a gal who is trying to take care of her family the best way she knows how with a husband who works shift work and three little babies to take care of a simple act such as fixing a broken dishwasher reinforces that Christ's love is alive and well and carried out through men such as the one who fixed my broken dishwasher. And all I can say is thank you.
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
With love,
