For the Mamas

I recently read a 5-day devotional called No More Unglued Mama Mornings by Lysa TerKeurst. If I'm not mistaken it is part of a book that is titled Unglued.  Getting a child ready for school is one of the hardest parts of my day.  We seriously struggle and I'm not the best morning person either.  I'm more of a middle of the day kind of person. My husband wakes up singing with little birdies flying around helping him get ready. Me, don't talk to me for at least an hour or until the coffee has kicked in.

I've always been the type of person who doesn't do well when things don't go according to plan. I'm working on it, but just a heads up, I'm probably not the one you want to be around during an emergency situation. My husband on the other hand, that's what he does for a living, he puts out fires. One of the reasons I think we work so well together because his strengths are my weaknesses, and his weaknesses are my strengths. No accident that it turned out this way, God is the master planner and maker.

One of the days of the devotional talked about to help yourself from coming unglued find the "joy treasure"  The joy treasure are those little things that you find so special about your kids that just make your heart swell with love for them. The treasure is hidden in the stressful moments that you experience in the morning. She says when you find the joy treasure, "take a snapshot of it and tuck it in your heart and let it sink deep." That will help bring peace, love, joy, patience, and kindness into our lives in those tough mornings when it seems like the whole world is against you even your own kids.

So I wanted to share a little bit of "joy treasure" that I find in each of my little ones:

Emry- the way she stares off and thinks in the mornings, I fuss at her to get moving because we only have a little bit of time but I know there are some big thoughts going on in that brain of hers. I can just see the wheels turning.

Isla- the way she wants to eat something as soon as she gets up and the way she needs her juice. That girl will drive you crazy with getting her something to drink but when she finally gets it, you can see in her face just how good it is to her. She doesn't stop until that full cup is drained to empty.

Olly- the way she raises her eyebrows at me when she gets excited and the cheesy grin she has behind the pacifier when I see her for the first time in the morning. She is clingy, she only wants mama, and when trying to get other children ready it is difficult. But when her eyes meet mine and she lets out her "grandpa chuckle", my heart is full.

These joy treasures are food for our souls. They sustain us in these difficult times we have as mamas. I'm reminded to slow down and relish in these moments. This is part of what you were created for. This is what God wants you to see. The beautiful blessings and gifts in front of you that he has so graciously given you. Don't miss out on your treasure because I guarantee it's one that is worth so much more than money can buy.

First pool day!

Sweet smile!

That crossed leg!

With love,
Tori
