An Attitude of Gratitude

The first time I heard this phrase I was teaching middle school language arts to a group of really special 8th graders. It was a small group, but every single one of those children were extraordinary in their own way and had something big to bring to the table. I don't recall specifically what we were covering, but due to the size of the group we got to do some really cool activities and have pretty meaningful discussions.  I had asked a question about a passage or story we had read and one of the girls raised her hand to respond.  Again I don't remember the exact question or her exact answer but I do remember a phrase she said and it has stuck with me since. She said, "My mama always said you need to have an attitude of gratitude."  When I heard that, I knew right then and there that was a phrase I needed in my repertoire of go-to phrases for teachable moments with my kids. Isn't life funny, though? Here I am supposed to be teaching these children and I end up learning life lessons from them. That's just the way it goes sometimes. So the phrase was embedded for fast recollection and I use it today with my children.

I must confess, I use it on myself as well.

On a side note: Parents, keep teaching and training your children in the Truth. They hear you and trust me, they are listening especially when you think they are not.

So today, I just want to keep it simple.  Have an attitude of gratitude.  If you haven't already thanked God today for one thing, do it now.  Make it a habit.  Every single day, thank him for at least one thing he has blessed you with.  Anything! We have an immeasurable amount of blessings that he grants to us every single day, the least we can do is thank him for at least one of them.  I'm pretty sure if you do this everyday, your perspective on the will change for the better.

I ran across this quote and it's what I will leave you with today...

"Gratitude is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating it for what it already is."

With love,
Tori
