A Moment Becomes A Memory
Here we stand, masks on, enjoying some Christmas festivities out together as a family because honestly, we haven’t always been able to have this. There have been plenty of occasions where we go at it apart because life requires it.
But for this moment we are together and that’s what matters. Although I wish I could trap “time in a bottle”, I know this moment is all I have because time does not slow or keep. Making this moment a memory is what I care about.
My memory of this night will not focus on the decorations or the food that I ate, although both would be worth remembering.
My memory will recall:
~How we thought we missed it the entire event because everyone had to go to the bathroom.
~How we all stood together while a stranger was kind enough to capture the moment for us.
~How we all agreed the planes were the coolest part of the whole event, besides Cinderella’s carriage.
~How we patiently stared at the elderly group of patrons from outside the restaurant window because we were starving and we were waiting for their table quoting movie lines like “Please sir.”
~How we discussed our favorite Christmas movies over dinner and while everyone differed for the most part, it was hard for us to choose just one.
~How we prayed and gave thanks for the time we were gifted to fellowship and love one another.
~How we all parted our separate ways, all with anticipation for the next time we could gather again.
You see what I’ve learned is it’s not the traditions, the events, or the things that create those precious lifelong memories. Sure they are fun and have their place, but we must not forget those traditions aren’t what is precious. What’s precious is the fact you have someone to share that moment with until it becomes a memory.
The memories are made in the conversations, the mishaps, and the mundane moments that remind you life is good as long as we’re together.
With love,
Tori
