My Trusty Sidekick
On a ride home from Jacksonville, I turned around and saw this sight. Not sure if there are much sweeter moments than this for a mom to see.
On one side her trusty friend and sidekick, Lady. On the other side, her second mama's hand in hers. In Olly's world, that's all she needs to feel secure, safe, and content.
Some days there is just something missing. Days where nothing is wrong, but nothing is right either.
Feelings and emotions can make your mind go round and round. Feelings change with the wind and if you focus on those feelings day in and day out, you'll find yourself in these "blah" moments. Just wishing and hoping for something different than what you're living in that very moment. Diligence is necessary otherwise those feelings will become beliefs. Beliefs that put you in a constant state of comparison with others. Beliefs that say I should have this to be better, happier, and more accomplished.
And so begins the chase. Like a dog chasing it's own tail, going round and round trying to catch what's always just out of reach. After time tiredness sets in, and the chase slows down, but it's only long enough to catch a breath. Then the chase starts all over again at full speed. All because feelings became beliefs.
Just like my little girl, we all need to find our trusty sidekick to remind us that our feelings are not our truth. Someone who helps keep us safe, secure, and content in all situations of life. Someone that we can always count on to never let us down, speak truth to us when our feelings are speaking lies, and covers us with a peace like no other.
That faithful friend is Jesus.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
With love,
Tori
